Sources: Fatal shooting on GWB was a road rage incident, police say

The unidentified male was found inside a vehicle on the upper level of the George Washington Bridge, on the westbound side of traffic.

The bullet apparently hit the driver's seat headrest and then hit the victim. News 4's Ida Siegal reports.

A man is in custody and being questioned in connection with Tuesday's fatal shooting on the George Washington Bridge Tuesday night, according to two sources familiar with the matter.

The incident took place around 7 p.m. on the upper level of the bridge. The victim, 46-year-old Koran Irvine, was rushed to Englewood Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

While driving a Blue Volkswagen Golf on an entrance ramp to the George Washington Bridge, the driver was captured on video as he nearly collided with another car. Shortly after, the victim's rear passenger window was shot out with what law enforcement sources believe was a lone gunshot.

The bullet appeared to strike the driver seat headrest before entering the driver's body, law enforcement sources tell News 4. The victim's car later struck a median, bringing it to a full stop. The suspect was seen driving on.

Sources familiar with the matter tell News 4 police believe the incident was a result of a road rage dispute.

Police have not shared a description of the suspected shooter.

Police have been reviewing surveillance cameras for more information about the other vehicle involved.
